Sturm attacker Rasmus Höjlund made the difference. With his first goal he got help from Salzburg goalkeeper Philipp Köhn, with the second he let the Salzburg defense stand. “Of course it was a great feeling to score decisively against such an opponent,” said the 19-year-old. “We are on a very good path.” Coach Christian Ilzer is full of praise for his top scorer: “There was enormous conviction in there. That also distinguishes him, he then brings it to the pitch with a naturalness that I have rarely seen in such a youngster.”
“I hope it was a wake-up call”
For the first time since 2006, Sturm won two league home wins against Salzburg in a row, but Ilzer did not derive a change of guard at the top of the Bundesliga from this. “Thinking big never hurts, but we don’t have big sayings.”
Small voice was the master. “Hopefully it was a wake-up call,” said coach Matthias Jaissle. “We can rack our brains about tactical or playful things, if we don’t bring the basic virtues onto the pitch, then it will be difficult against such a top opponent in the league.”
