Ex-ÖFB team boss Franco Foda, who had Avdijaj under his wing when he was the coach of Sturm Graz, has recently become the head coach of the Swiss. The 25-year-old German-Kosovar signed a three-year contract in Zurich, but Hartberger did not provide any information on Monday about the amount of the transfer fee.
Avdijaj moved to Styria eleven months ago and scored seven goals in 23 competitive games, two of them in the league opener a week ago against Altach. “Of course, Donis’ departure hurts a lot. He was in really good shape and an absolutely creative player and top performer. Now we have to find an adequate replacement as soon as possible,” explained Hartberg Managing Director Erich Korherr.
His departure from Hartberg comes with a heavy heart, Avdijaj said in a message to his fans. “This step was not easy for me because I had a good time here with you and we managed to stay up in the league together.” The possibility of playing internationally and being coached by Foda again spoke in favor of the change.
