Ronaldo and Mbappé will probably move to other clubs, Messi has already done it: At the end of the transfer summer, it suddenly becomes quite spectacular – it was not predictable.
Recently the reports have rolled over. First Real Madrid offered 160 million euros for Kylian Mbappé to lure the exceptional 22-year-old striker from Paris Saint-Germain to the Spanish capital, and finally topped it off. According to media reports, the offer is now between 170 and 180 million euros. So the big clubs play poker according to all the rules of the art, but it looks like the deal will come about.
One reason is: The French wonder striker desperately wants to leave – this summer, and not in a year when his contract expires. He wants to switch to his dream club. How Real Madrid wants to raise the exorbitant sum is one of the business mysteries of world football. Recently, President Florentino Perez complained that the end was near and Real would soon be at an end. Still, the Royal Mbappé seem to be able to afford it.
PSG can afford to leave Mbappé
The fact that PSG are negotiating at all has to do with the fact that Messi was signed. PSG can therefore afford to leave Mbappés. If Messi hadn’t come, the situation would most likely be different. However, there was no strategic plan behind it, but pure coincidence – that is the special point of this transfer castling. For a long time it was said from Barcelona that the Argentine would stay. He even wanted to forego half of his salary in order to support the highly indebted club financially. That alone was of no use. The Catalans, who grapple with around 1.35 billion gross debt, found after a cash drop that they couldn’t have paid other players if Messi had stayed.
The breakup was inevitable and PSG grabbed it. This is a special coup for the Parisians: Messi and Neymar should finally win the Champions League title for PSG – a task that the club has regularly failed to tackle for years despite huge investments. With these two, FC Barcelona won its last title in the premier class so far in 2015. For Qatar as a club owner, that would be a maximum success in the year of the World Cup, which takes place in the country at the end of the year.
At Manchester City there is a free space for Ronaldo
Just like Messi’s surprising departure from Barcelona, Ronaldo’s end comes at Juventus Turin, who will most likely leave the club for Manchester City. There have been rumors about possible changes all summer, but in the end no one expected this dynamic that emerged recently. At first it was said that the disaffected Portuguese wanted to go back to his heart club Real Madrid, then he was linked with Paris Saint-Germain to form a kind of galactic super storm with Lionel Messi and Neymar. Most recently, his coach at Juventus Turin, Massimiliano Allegri, ruled out a transfer (“Cristiano told me he was staying”). But now everything indicates that Ronaldo is going to Manchester City. There is a free space there because dream striker Harry Kane canceled.
The clubs are negotiating, it is about the comparatively ridiculous sum of around 25 million euros. Three years ago, Juventus Turin put 100 million on the table for him. In order to get a cent for the striker, Turin has to let the star go because his contract will expire in a year. Ronaldo is said to have already cleared his locker. He has accepted that he will collect “only” around 15 million per annum in England.
The looming changes of Mbappé and Ronaldo would close the transfer summer spectacularly. That was not to be foreseen.
