Valerian Hüttner experienced his second first time today: The Vorwarts Steyr goalkeeper made his debut in the 2nd soccer league against Liefering last Friday, but it ended prematurely after 75 minutes due to a storm. Today the game will be completely replayed – it will now finally be included in the statistics as a professional premiere (6.30 p.m.).
After coach Daniel Madlener gave preference to Florian Eres in the ÖFB Cup and in the first round, Hüttner is now number one. In the first attempt against Liefering he had to concede a goal. “Of course it’s bitter when the actual debut is canceled. Nevertheless, starting from scratch, we have the opportunity to take points home,” said Hüttner.
To do this, going forward needs strong support. The 21-year-old is well prepared for the onslaught of young Salzburgers: At the age of 14 he moved from Ohlsdorf to the academy of Austria Wien, he played nine times for ÖFB youth selections. After an interlude in Traiskirchen in 2019, he was loaned to the German Bundesliga club Wolfsburg. “I was there alone and became more mature. I was also able to learn a lot from Koen Casteels. It’s amazing what he does in training,” says Hüttner about the Belgian team goalkeeper.
Vorwarts Steyr brought the Laakirchner back to Upper Austria, last season he gained match practice as a loan player in the Upper Austrian league: in the autumn at St. Valentin, in the spring at Micheldorf. Today he gets the second first opportunity to prove himself two leagues higher.
Blau-Weiss Linz is testing Rath
In the next two weeks, Blau-Weiss Linz will be testing an alternative for defense in Lukas Rath. The 30-year-old, who can defend both down and inside, has been without a club since his contract with Admira expired in the summer of 2021. He brings Bundesliga experience from 167 games for Mattersburg and ten for Admira.
