Arsenal have a debacle against ManCity. Ex-Gunner Mesut Özil speaks up on Twitter – and apparently taunts Mikel Arteta.

Rio world champion Mesut Özil has joined after the 5-0 defeat of his former club Arsenal FC against Manchester City Twitter reported to speak. The game designer of the Turkish first division club Fenerbahce wrote only three words – and it looks like they are a tip against Gunners coach Mikel Arteta.

Özil wrote “Trust the Process”, followed by the emojis of a broken heart and a pensive face. Arteta has uttered exactly these words in public several times in the past few weeks, trying to put the weak results of his team into perspective.

Arsenal FC: Mikel Arteta did not rely on Mesut Özil

Özil and Arteta no longer had a good relationship at the end of the midfield star’s Arsenal time. Arteta had hardly bet on Özil in the first half of the 2020/21 season and thus paved the way for his January transfer to Istanbul.

Under the successor Unai Emerys, Arsenal landed in eighth place in the Premier League last season and thus missed the international competition. The clap against City on Saturday means for the former top club from north London not only 20th place in the table but also the worst start to the season in 20 years.

For Arteta’s critics, the renewed defeat means grist on their mills. The sporting leadership is said to have lost trust in the ex-assistant Pep Guardiolas. In the past week, reports were already circulating that Arsenal’s officials had made contact with Antonio Conte, who is currently without a club.
