The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced on Tuesday that it has received a record 33 sports entries for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games, including 22 entries for 2024 events.
According to the IPC, in addition to the 22 sports that will be part of the Paris 2024 Games program, those that were featured at the Tokyo 2020 Games have applied for wrestling, climbing, football for athletes with cerebral palsy. , golf, karate, dance, football, electric chair, sailing, surfing, wheelchair handball and beach volleyball.
The IPC assures that it will review applications in close cooperation with the organizing committee of the competition, indicating that the final decision will be announced in January 2023.
Colleen Wrenn, Head of the IPC Paralympic Games Organizing Committee, believes that “the record 33 requests for sports are a testament to the growing power of sport for people with disabilities within the global sports movement.”
The Los Angeles Paralympic Games will be held from August 15 to 27, 2028, and the Paris Games from August 28 to September 8, 2024.
