The Jeanne SOLO Sailor is drifting above the northern Spanish coast. The boat of a French sailor capsized around 22 kilometers off the Sisargas Islands on Monday evening. The 62-year-old managed to call the Spanish coast guard for help with an emergency signal. When the rescuers arrived, however, nothing was to be seen of him. The sailor persevered in the hull of his boat. The knock signal drew the attention of the rescue divers. In order to free the man, the emergency services first had to secure the damaged sailing ship with balloons before it drifted off. After a total of 16 hours in the hull of the capsized boat, the sailor was finally safe. According to rescue workers, he only survived because he was wearing a special suit.
