Cycling in Portugal restricts traffic in Belém and Vila Franca de Xira.

The implementation of the prologue and the first leg of the Volta a Portugal by bike will improve traffic and parking on Thursday in Belém, Lisbon, and on Friday in Vila Franca de Xira, PSP warned on Tuesday.

In the prologue of the Volta on Thursday, the delegation will drive along the urban highway along Avenida da India in the Belen area, which will affect traffic, so the authorities recommend as an alternative, mainly for public transport, the use of the Avenida from Brasilia, via the Pedrusus Viaduct.

The PSP also warned that all citizens traveling by car to the city of Lisbon should follow the traffic closure and detour warnings on various information boards, namely Ponte 25 de Abril, Highway 5, Eixo Norte/Sul and Segunda.

Avenida da India will be closed to traffic on Thursday from 07:00 to 21:30, as will traffic between this avenue and Avenida Torre de Belém and the Rua de Cascais/Alcantara viaduct, Praça Afonso de Albuquerque, Rua Mecia Musigno de Albuquerque. , Travessa da Guarda and Travessa da Gale. The connection between Praça do Império and Rua Bartolomeu Dias will also be closed to vehicular traffic (between 13:30 and 19:00).

CCB Street is closed to traffic from 08:00 on Wednesday until 21:30 on Thursday, while Arruamento Largo/Rua das Oliveiras is closed to traffic until 21:30 on Thursday.

Until Thursday 22:00, parking is prohibited in Arruamento Largo, on Centro Cultural de Belém, in Parque dos Pinheiros and in front of Museu da Marinha, and in Rua de Belém/EMEL.

On Friday, the 1st Stage of the Tour will take place with a symbolic departure from the Urbano do Cevadeiro Park, to Vila Franca de Xira, so from 12:15 there will be traffic jams crossing this city and crossing the Maréchal Carmona bridge towards Porto Alto – Reta do Cabo.

In the note, the PSP urges citizens to follow the instructions of police officers posted along the course of the race, to observe the race at the indicated places, “away from the curb and not interfere with the movement of cyclists”, not to cross or move along the streets of the passage for athletes and to avoid visiting places with limited pedestrian traffic to avoid crowds such as starting and ending points (next to Jeronimos Monastery).

The 83rd Bike Tour of Portugal starts on Thursday and will run until August 15, according to the program available on the event website https://www.volta-portugal.com/.
