Djokovic pulls out of Montreal Masters 1000 due to lack of Covid-19 vaccination

Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, currently No. 6 in the ATP rankings, has withdrawn from the Montreal Masters 1000 due to the need to have a Covid-19 vaccine, Canadian tournament organizers announced this Thursday.

Due to not being vaccinated, Djokovic was soon banned from entering Canada as the country requires vaccination for people who want to gain access to the territory, and for this reason, his absence from the Montreal tournament was confirmed this Thursday.

This could indicate that the former world No. 1 should miss the US Open, the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season, precisely because the United States also requires proof of Covid-19 vaccination to enter the country.

In 2022, also due to a vaccination problem, Djokovic did not compete in the Australian Open, the first Grand Slam, but a few months later he won the Wimbledon tournament in England.

The Montreal Masters 1000 starts on Monday and the US Open runs from August 29 to September 11.
