Italian rider Andrea Dovizioso will retire from the top class of MotoGP speed bike racing after 14 of 20 world races taking place on the weekend of September 4 in San Marino, Yamaha announced today.
In a statement, the manufacturer “confirms the decision of MotoGP star Andrea Dovizioso to step down from his 20-year career in the San Marino and Riviera de Rimini Grand Prix exactly one year after joining the project.”
“Official test driver (British) Cal Crutchlow will be a substitute for the remaining six races of the season.”
Dovizioso, 36, was a 125cc world champion (Honda) in 2004 and a three-time MotoGP medalist (Ducati) between 2017 and 2019.
