Francesco Bagnaia has picked up at Silverstone where he left off at Assen ahead of the MotoGP summer break. The Italian won the British Grand Prix on Sunday after a gripping duel on the final laps with the Spaniard Maverick Vinales (+0.426 sec.). In addition to Bagnaia, who has now won four times this season, Ducati also had another rider on the podium in Australia’s Jack Miller.
“I think this is my best win so far,” said Bagnaia. In his success, he benefited not least from the fall of his brand colleague Johann Zarco. The Frenchman, who started from pole position, threw the possible victory into the gravel bed already in the fifth of 20 laps and after 96 Grands Prix is still waiting for his first triumph in the premier class.
World champion Fabio Quartararo (Yamaha) extended his championship lead (180 points) to 22 points despite a disappointing eighth place because he stayed ahead of his closest pursuer Aleix Espargaro (9th). Bagnaia is third with 131 points. The two KTM riders Miguel Oliveira and Brad Binder finished sixth and eleventh in England.
