The new season of the Upper Austrian football league kicked off at the weekend. The first day of the game in the highest league of the federal state had it all.
Coach change before kick-off: The first table leader of the still young season comes from Linz: Edelweiss Linz defeated ATSV Stadl-Paura, who had been relegated to the regional league, 5-0 and took the lead in the table after the first round. In addition to five goals for the home team, there was also a curious change among the guests: Stadl-Paura goalkeeper Manuel Schörgenhuber was injured, but because the club did not have a backup goalkeeper in the matchday squad, field player Surab Hamz took the place between the posts. The 18-year-old defender conceded five goals in the second half.
The coaching constellation for the first season leader is also special: three days before the start, the club announced the separation from Harald Kondert. “After the Cup-Aus against SC Marchtrenk and the last test match against Vorchdorf, the topic arose that the coach and the team no longer really harmonize. That’s why Harald Kondert informed us about his resignation,” explains Edelweiss sports director Lukas Moser. Former professional Manfred Rothbauer, actually the club’s physio, took over on an interim basis against Stadl-Paura – and immediately celebrated a goal festival. A new coach could already be found in the upcoming game at Weißkirchen. Ex-Pregarten coach Ronald Riepl is one of the candidates.
Wins for newcomers to the league: Also at the top of the table are two neo-Upper Austria league teams, Dietach and FC Wels, who have been promoted. At Dietach, two offensive forces proved their qualities against Mondsee (4: 2): Yusuf Efendioglu and Denis Berisha each scored twice. FC Wels started the way neo-coach Mujo Candic had imagined: the 56-year-old Bosnian was the only coach who didn’t bet on Oedt or Wallern as the upcoming champions, but on his own team.
Emotional comeback: The 1:1 of Micheldorf was in the guest appearance in St. Martin/M. A side note: Michael Halbartschlager’s return to the starting XI was the main focus for the Kremstal team. The 29-year-old was unable to play for four months due to a diagnosed myocarditis – on Saturday, the former captain of second-division team Zwischen Steyr was back from the start for the first time. In the summer he returned from the second division soccer team to the Green and Whites. “halbi” played for the Kremstalers between 2010 and 2015.
