British athletics coach irradiated for sex crimes

English coach Tony Minichiello was irradiated by the British Athletics Federation (UK Athletics) today for various unlawful acts against athletes, including “sexual and physical”, for 15 years.

Minichiello, 56, who coached London 2012 Olympic heptathlon champion Jessica Ennis-Hill, was found guilty of four offenses that amounted to “serious breach of trust” by UK Athletics, according to a statement by UK Athletics.

Inappropriate behavior by the coach included “inappropriate touching, innuendo and other sexual gestures” as well as “aggressive acts, bullying and emotional abuse”.

Minichiello, who has always denied all allegations, also led the all-around specialist Ennis-Hill to three world titles (2009, 2011 and 2015) and an Olympic silver medal in Rio 2016.
