New leader in Volta in Portugal after climbing the Tower

Uruguayan Mauricio Moreira of Glassdrive-Q8-Anicolor won this Sunday the 3rd stage of Volta a Portugal 2022 with the final in Torre, Serra da Estrela and won the leader’s yellow jersey, depriving his teammate Rafael Reis.

As usual, climbing the Tower selected the best, filtered out the contenders for the final victory and deprived many cyclists of hope. The route of the day was formed 10 km from the track and consisted of ten cyclists who arrived together to Covilhã. There began ramps and the group broke up. At the same time, the Glassdrive team picked up the pace and completely split the peloton.

António Carvalho, Frederico Figueiredo and Mauricio Moreira attacked in turn, with only Luis Fernandes (Radio Popular-Boavista) able to keep up with the yellow cyclists. On the way to the finish, Luis Fernandez attacked the sprint first, but Uruguayan Mauricio Moreira had to win the stage and take the lead. Moreira is now 30 seconds ahead of teammate Frederico Figueiredo and 31 seconds ahead of Luis Fernandez.

This Monday is Stage 4, 169.1 km long, between Guarda and Viseu, preceded by a rest day.
