Professional cyclist Felix Großschartner is currently warming up for the Tour of Germany, which begins on August 24, on the hills of Upper Austria. The 28-year-old has now digested the after-effects of the exhausting Tour de France. The sporting future of the double state champion for the next two seasons has also been clarified, as was announced yesterday: After five years in the German World Tour racing team Bora-hansgrohe, the Marchtrenker will switch to the UAE team Emirates from 2023 and will be a teammate there Top star Tadej Pogacar.
The Slovenian himself, who was already a two-time Tour Champion at the age of just 23, spoke out in favor of the versatile Austrian at the sporting management. “It’s a new challenge for me. It’s one of the world’s best teams and I think I can make a good contribution there,” says Großschartner. Not only as an important helper for Pogacar in the mountains, the winner of the 2019 Tour of Turkey will also have his chances himself. “He’s a very talented driver,” says UAE team boss Mauro Gianetti. Another strong man had already been signed with the Belgian classic car specialist Tim Wellens. The direction is clear: “Tadej wants to be number one again next year on the tour,” says Großschartner. This requires a powerful team. This year the Dane Jonas Vingegaard prevented the third win in a row with an impressive performance.
What does Postlberger do?
Like Großschartner, his Bora teammate Lukas Pöstlberger is also in transition. The man from Schwanenstadt, who is contesting the European Championship road race in Munich on Sunday and has been driving for the team from Raubling in Bavaria since 2015, is said to be able to switch to another team next season. Traditionally, most new contracts for the coming season are announced in cycling in August. A decision could soon be made here as well.
