The European Championships become a televised event. ARD and ZDF take turns reporting on the sporting multi-event in Munich. According to the public broadcaster, around 300 hours of broadcasting are planned.

In addition to broadcasts on traditional television, they offer up to six parallel live streams on the Internet. Broadcasts from the European Swimming Championships in Rome are also integrated.

It starts on August 12 at 2:10 p.m. on ARD. At the end on August 21, ZDF broadcasts almost continuously from 10.15 a.m. to 9.45 p.m. The transmission volume on television has “almost Olympic dimensions with up to 14 hours a day,” said sports coordinator Ael Balkausky. The broadcaster announced: “All decisions with German medal chances are live, in the case of parallel competitions in the form of conference switching.”

“We are again offering a range of Olympic sports the large media stage that is otherwise hardly available outside of the Olympics,” said ZDF sports director Thomas Fuhrmann. That is “a win-win situation” for sport and spectators.

When presenting the live broadcasts, both TV stations rely on women. Esther Sedlaczek moderates the first, Katrin Müller-Hohenstein the second.

The first relies on Frank Busemann (athletics), Julius Brink (beach volleyball), Fabian Hambüchen (gymnastics) and Hannes Ocik (rowing) as experts. The second are: Ronny Ziesmer (gymnastics), Kristina Vogel (track bike), Ronald Raue (canoe), Ludwig Korb (climbing), Daniel Unger (triathlon), Jonas Reckermann (beach volleyball) and Christian Keller (swimming).
