“The management of Sport Lisboa e Benfica has also decided that this season there will be no shirt with the number 10 in the main football team, in memory of the unforgettable and inimitable Fernando Chalan,” reads a note released to the Reds’ official website. It should be noted that the number 10 does not have an “owner” as German Luka Waldschmidt left the Eagles for Wolfsburg in 2021.

“The body of Fernando Chalana will be in the burning chamber starting tomorrow Thursday at the Basilica da Estrela in Lisbon from 19:00 to 22:00. The commemoration will continue on Friday morning, from 10:00 am until Mass at 2:15 pm.
