You can’t just be active running at the Oberbank Linz Donau Marathon. Also this year many supporting hands are needed behind the scenes for Upper Austria’s largest running event. When this takes place on October 22nd and 23rd, around 450 volunteers will be on duty.
“A major event of this kind can only work with the support of many hard-working supporters in the background,” says OC boss Günther Weidlinger. His colleague Julia Kitzmüller also confirms this: “There are many activities for which we can need helpers.” Whether for filling the starter bags, handing out the start numbers or looking after the refreshment stations and relay changeover areas, supporters are needed everywhere. They are the ones who ensure that everything runs smoothly.
“It’s nice for me when we can contribute a little bit behind the scenes to the success of the many runners. I always look forward to seeing the many helpers again every year. Everyone lends a hand and creates something great together,” says the long-standing volunteer Katharina Gahleitner.
Everyone approaches the task with passion. “The best thing about it is that we fully understand the emotions of the participants when they cross the finish line and are totally happy,” describe Helene and Katharina Gahleitner of their experiences. “You can only have a big grin on your face.” After the marathon there will be a special thank-you party for everyone.
