The EM-Aus also means the end of Jogi Löw as national coach. According to his own statement, he has not yet planned how things will continue in concrete terms. But a rumor keeps popping up.
After the European Championship and his last international match as national coach, Joachim Löw left his future in football completely open. “At the moment I have no concrete plan,” said the 61-year-old Löw on Tuesday in London in the video press conference after the 2-0 draw in the round of 16 against England. “Now I haven’t made a decision.”
After 15 years as head coach of the DFB, it will do him good “to free himself a bit from responsibility. Then new energy will come.” Löw noted that he had never spoken of retirement. A break is important. “You need a distance, you don’t immediately look around for something new. There are sure to be new tasks that are interesting for me,” remarked Löw.
Rumors about Löw and Real Madrid
Several times – and most recently at the end of May – there had been rumors that Real Madrid was interested in Löw as a coach. But the legendary Spanish club has Carlo Ancelotti on June 1st as – and thus initially no need. But that could go well with Löw’s plans to take a break first. Should Real and Ancelotti ever go their separate ways, Löw could end his break. When asked about Real Madrid at the “ZDF Sportstudio” at the end of 2018, Löw replied: “This is of course a club that is interesting for every coach.” He could already imagine working as a club coach – but more abroad than in Germany.
