Nkunku prevailed in the election with 134 votes ahead of world footballer Robert Lewandowski, who had switched to FC Barcelona, who, as an attacker at FC Bayern Munich, received six votes fewer than Nkunku.
Previously, Nkunku had also been voted player of the 2021/2022 season by the coaches and captains of the Bundesliga clubs. With 35 goals and 20 assists, the French had scored 55 points.
