He already has silver, but Lukas Märtens is far from having enough at the European Swimming Championships.
“I think there is definitely still a lot to do,” said the 20-year-old after his second place in the 800-meter freestyle. “I still have the 200 meters. Probably the prelims, semi-finals, finals. And then the 400 meters,” he summarized his program. “These are routes on which I’m still calculating. But I don’t want to say too much now because the race was very, very exhausting.”
Märtens was only beaten by Italian Gregorio Paltrinieri in the 800-meter final. This Sunday morning, the pre-run over 200 meters freestyle starts at 9 a.m.
The man from Magdeburg won the silver medal at the World Championships in June over 400 meters and is one of the favorites, at least on this distance.
