At the EM, Cristiano Ronaldo had already equaled Ali Daei’s record. Now the Portuguese is the sole record holder.
Cristiano Ronaldo scored his 110th international goal for Portugal in Wednesday night’s World Cup qualifier against Ireland. This means that the 36-year-old striker is now the sole record holder for most international goals, ahead of ex-Bayern professional Ali Daei, who scored 109 goals for Iran between 1993 and 2006.
Ronaldo scored against the Irish in the 89th minute to make it 1-1.
Cristiano Ronaldo: 110 goals in 180 international matches for Portugal
The five-time world footballer from Manchester United needed 180 caps for the record. He completed his first of these in August 2003 in a friendly against Kazakhstan. CR7 scored his first goal for Portugal when they lost 2-1 to Greece in the opening game of their 2004 home European championships.
Ronaldo and Daei are clearly ahead of third and fourth placed in the list of the best. In third place is Mokhtar Dahari (89 goals for Malaysia), followed in fourth place by Hungarian legend Ferenc Puskas (84 goals).
