Not only the German national team had an unfortunate appearance yesterday, the ARD team Jessy Wellmer and Bastian Schweinsteiger also had to listen to a lot of criticism for an interview with national coach Joachim Löw. The ARD takes the duo under protection.
ARD sports coordinator Axel Balkausky has rejected criticism of the interviews after the German national soccer team left the European Championship. “Jessy Wellmer and Bastian Schweinsteiger managed to treat Joachim Löw with respect without being uncritical about the situation”said Balkausky of the German press agency. “The interview was very challenging for everyone involved, as it marked the end of the Löw era and it also affected the national coach noticeably.”
“All’s well that ends well?”
After the 0: 2 and the disappointing end of the Löw era, there was criticism of Wellmer’s formulation, among other things “All’s well that ends well”. The sports coordinator said: “She formulated a question that was called: “All’s well that ends well – or isn’t all well?” This may have reached the television in abbreviated form in the noise, but she expressly formulated it as a question.”
Several media had criticized the interview. In the social networks, too, many users were irritated and angry. The decision to go to Hamburg immediately after the final whistle was also criticized “daily News” instead of staying live with the emotional atmosphere at Wembley. Curious: The news broadcast then began with a match report and a stadium slot, before a detailed follow-up report on the round of 16 France versus Switzerland was broadcast, which had been whistled 20 hours ago (!).
The ARD had already come under fire when it apologized in a misleading tweet for the supposedly partisan comments from live reporter Tom Bartels.
