According to many coaches and officials of the 30 state leagues, the climbers in the Upper Austrian league have already been determined: the relegated Bad Schallerbach in the state league west and Donau Linz in the east are the top favorites for the title. The matter appears much clearer in the West:
“Bad Schallerbach can only beat itself,” says Sattledt coach Robert Lenz. That hasn’t happened so far: After the 4-0 start against Gmunden, Kammer was defeated 5-0 on Friday. “With this budget and this squad, what else is going to happen?”, says Kammer’s sports director Markus Schneidhofer. Also in the pole position you can see the Schallerbacher at Grieskirchen. “They have enormous quality, but they have to bring it onto the pitch,” says coach Reinhard Furthner, whose team also got off to a dream start with the 2-1 win in Gschwandt.
Danube slips up at the start
In the East, Donau Linz is also seen as a relegated team from the Upper Austrian league as a title candidate. “Donau has upgraded a lot and has maneuvered itself into this role as a favourite,” says the new old St. Florian coach Wilhelm Wahlmüller. In the first game, Kleinmünchner didn’t live up to their role as favourites: 1:2 at Viktoria Marchtrenk. However, the competition is big and strong: SC Marchtrenk, Bad Leonfelden or the 1b team from Oedt also want to be at the forefront.
