French footballer Benjamin Mendy has been declared a “sexual predator” by prosecutors.

French international footballer Benjamin Mendy, who is on trial for rape, was classified in court by the prosecution on Monday as a “sexual predator” who abused “vulnerable, intimidated and isolated victims.”

“The case is simple and has little to do with football. The story is old: men attack and rape women because they think they can get away with it,” prosecutor Timothy Cray said during the trial, which takes place in Chester, England. .

Cray described Mandy and another man, who is also on trial, as two “predators ready to commit serious violations against vulnerable, intimidated and isolated young people”, admitting that the victims could see their cell phones confiscated when they approached the player. .

After two days of jury selection and hearing organization, the trial of Mandy, charged with eight rapes, attempted rape and the crime of sexual assault, this Monday’s trial has been reserved for a ruling by the public ministry.

In May, Benjamin Mendy pleaded not guilty in court, pleading not guilty to 10 crimes accused by six women, allegedly committed between October 2018 and August 2021 at his home in Prestbury.

After months in detention, Mendy, the 2018 world champion on contract with Manchester City, was placed under judicial review in mid-January.

Mendy, who started at Le Havre, went through Marseille and then spent a season at Monaco, became the most expensive defender in history in 2017 when Manchester City paid €60m.

Last August, Manchester City, the club with Portuguese players Ruben Dias, Joao Cancelo and Bernardo Silva, suspended the 27-year-old French international without any explanation.
