Breaststroke swimmer Lucas Matzerath won bronze at the European Championships in Rome. The 22-year-old from Frankfurt came in third over 50 meters.
In 27.11 seconds he was only behind the Italians Nicolo Martinenghi and Simone Cerasuolo. Matzerath finished sixth in the 100 meters at the European Championships. After bronze for Ole Braunschweig, it was the second sprint medal at this European Championship for the German Swimming Association.
“My first medal at an international championship, I still can’t believe it,” said Matzerath, who still had his reserves at the start. “My trainer says I’m the fastest at swimming. We’re going to train intensively for the start now,” he said on ARD.
