Pediatric emergency departments in Faro and Caldas da Rainha are closed this weekend, as is the obstetric emergency department at García de Horta Hospital, where even general emergencies are limited, a union source told Lusa.
According to the president of the Independent Union of Physicians (SIM), Roque da Cunha, a shortage of doctors has led to the closure of the pediatric emergency departments at Faro Hospital and the Centro Hospitalar do Oeste this weekend.
The OB/GYN Emergency Department at Garcia de Orta Hospital is not accepting pregnant women this weekend, and even that hospital’s general urgency is currently suffering from restrictions as the National Institute of Emergency Medicine (INEM) refers patients to other departments, Roque Da added. Wedge. .
The union member also drew attention to an obstetric emergency at Portalegre Hospital, where he says there is a doctor who is providing 48 hours of emergency care this weekend.
“This is completely irresponsible,” the clinician said, emphasizing that “a doctor who works 48 hours straight cannot make a scale.”
According to the National Health Service website, the maternity ward and obstetrical and gynecological emergency at Garcia de Orta Hospital are only open today from 08:00 to 00:00, after being closed from 08:00 on Saturday: 00.
There are also restrictions at the José Joaquim Fernandez Hospital in Beja, where emergency obstetric care is only available from 00:00 to 08:00, and at Sousa Martins Hospital in Guarda, where emergency obstetric care is only available from 00:00 to 09:00.
The portal also predicts that on Monday at Nossa Senhora do Rosario Hospital in Barreiro, the delivery unit will be closed from 09:00 to 21:00.
The Indigenous Peoples’ President warned that the problem of shutting down emergency services would escalate until the end of the year and urged the government to speed up the negotiation process with trade unions to alleviate the situation.
“About 500 hospital doctors and about 400 family doctors are expected to retire this year, so without the serious attitude of the Ministry of Health to this issue, it is unlikely that this problem will be solved,” he told Lusa today.
Roque da Cunha said that after a seven-hour marathon of negotiations on July 26, SIM agreed on a proposal for a negotiating protocol, but so far the Ministry of Health has not reached union agreement on the plan and there is no reason for this date to start trading.
The official believes that if there is an agreement between the parties in the negotiation process, it is possible to stop the departure of doctors and involve others, but expressed regret at the “sluggishness” of the government in the negotiations.
