After the medalless European Championships last year in Warsaw, Austria’s table tennis players have already secured three podium places in the current title fights in Munich. After the mixed bronze from Sofia Polcanova and Robert Gardos, both made it into the doubles semifinals yesterday. Since the third places are not played, the next two Austrian medals are sealed.
Polcanova and her Romanian partner Bernadette Szöcs didn’t give the Portuguese duo Yu Fu/Shao Jieni a chance 3-0. A victory in a clarity that was not surprising for the Linz native and her former colleague from Froschberg. “We already proved on the World Tour how strong we play,” said Polcanova.
Robert Gardos and Daniel Habesohn put the Germans Qiu Dang/Benedikt Duda in their place 3:2. “We already have two titles, now we’re going for the third,” said Habesohn.
