Prime Minister António Costa and President of the Assembly of the Republic Augusto Santos Silva this Wednesday congratulated Pedro Pichardo on winning the European Triple Jump title at the European Championships in Munich, Germany.

On the social network Twitter, António Costa congratulated Pichardo, who added this medal to the gold of Yuri Leitao in the scratch track and the silver of Oriol Dongmo in the shot put.

The head of government also connected these achievements with the bronze medals of Diogo Ribeiro and Gabriel Lopez, although they were also achieved at other European swimming championships, in Rome, which were held simultaneously.

“What a pride for Portugal. Congratulations to all,” he wrote.

Augusto Santos Silva recalled that Pichardo’s European title joins the world title achieved in Eugene last month and Olympic gold in Tokyo 2020.

“Portugal is proud of the achievements of this citizen who decided to be Portuguese,” he stressed on the same social network.

Secretary of State for Youth and Sports João Paulo Correia also chose Twitter to mark “another ‘flight’ to the gold medal”.

“The victory of domestic athletics, which we are very proud of,” he said.

The city council of Setúbal also sent a note of congratulations to the athlete who is training in the city.

Today, Pedro Pablo Pichardo was crowned European champion in the triple jump with 17.50 meters, adding that success to world and Olympic titles and giving Portugal a third all-around podium in Munich, in the final of which Thiago Pereira finished eighth. .

On the second test, the 29-year-old reached 17.50 meters, clearly outperforming Italy’s Andrea Dallavalle, 2021 European Under-23 Champion, by 46 centimeters, and France’s Jean-Marc Pontvianne by 56 centimeters, silver medals and bronze. , respectively.

The second European Multisport Championship takes place in Munich until Sunday and brings together nine sports, seven of which represent Portugal, namely athletics, canoeing, cycling, rhythmic gymnastics, rowing, table tennis and triathlon.

So far, the Portuguese team has won three medals: two gold thanks to Pedro Pablo Pichardo in the triple jump and cyclist Youri Leitao in the scratch in track cycling and one silver thanks to Auriol Dongmo in the shot put.
