Which stars does LASK send to Ried today?

It’s only the “small” Upper Austria derby that the young Vikings from SV Guntamatic Ried and the amateurs from LASK in the Innviertel are playing in the regional league (7 p.m.) today. And yet this game is particularly explosive with regard to the transfer market, which is still open for two weeks. Because it is certain that the Black and Whites will show up with one or two players in the Innviertel today, who would also cut a good figure in the Rieder professional squad.

A final decision about the squad for this match is only made on the day of the game, a few hours before departure. The list of players who were already on the field for the LASK amateurs in the first games is long: Jan Boller, Alexander Schmidt, Nemanja Celic or Husein Balic, for example, have already sniffed regional league air this year. In addition, players like Florian Flecker or especially Thomas Sabitzer have not even been given a place on the substitutes’ bench in Didi Kühbauer’s Bundesliga squad on the day of the match.

A situation that is not satisfactory for the duo: there are a few interested parties especially for the 21-year-old Sabitzer. “We have dealt with him. At the moment I see the chances as rather small”, confirms Ried’s sports director Thomas Reicheltshammer the interest in the offensive player. A lot can still be done before the transfer deadline on August 31. The longer LASK does not agree with any other club, the greater the chance that Sabitzer and Ried will eventually come together.

Ried coach Christian Heinle would be particularly happy about that: Even before the home game on Sunday against Tirol, the number of personnel on the offensive is tight due to the injuries to Christoph Monschein, Denizgan Cosgun and the sick Seifedin Chabbi.

Storm opponent lost

Sturm Graz conqueror Dynamo Kyiv lost the first leg against Benfica Lisbon (with ex-Salzburg coach Roger Schmidt) 0-2 (0-2) in the play-off for the Champions League on Wednesday. As against Sturm Graz, the Ukrainians had to play their home game in Lodz, Poland.
