The difficult feat of canoeist Fernando Pimenta, who won four medals, could be compromised after the organization of the European Championships in Munich, Germany, postponed three finals to Sunday due to bad weather.
The Portuguese canoeist had already won two of the four medals he was offering – K1 500 meters (bronze) and K1 1000 (silver) – and was set to challenge the K1 5000 final today, leaving the K2 1000 final for Sunday, teaming up with Joao Duarte.
A severe storm that hit the regatta area forced the organization to reschedule the last three legs of today’s program to Sunday, including the K1 5,000 final from Pimenta and the C1 5,000 final from Beatrice Lamas.
In addition to the two-time Olympic medalist, there will be five more A-finals in canoeing on Sunday, with a focus on K2 500 compiled by Messias Batista and Joao Ribeiro and K1 500 by Teresa Portela.
On a day when few Portuguese are in the game, athletics ends with Samuel Barata’s 10,000 meters and the women’s 100 meters hurdles with Olimpia Barbosa who will compete in the semi-finals. In cycling, Maria Martins competes in women’s long-distance events.
The second European Multisport Championship takes place in Munich until Sunday and brings together nine sports, of which Portugal is represented in seven, namely athletics, canoeing, cycling, rhythmic gymnastics, rowing, table tennis and triathlon.
Portugal already has six medals, namely two gold thanks to Pedro Pablo Pichardo in the triple jump and Juri Leitau in the scratch track, one silver from Oriol Dongmo in the shot put and one silver (1 1000 K) and bronze (K1 500) by canoeist Fernando Pimenta .
In paracanoe, Norberto Murao won bronze in the VL2 class.
