The American football community mourns ex-NFL star David Patten. The three-time Super Bowl winner died in an accident at the age of 47.
He played in the NFL for twelve years and won three championship titles with the New England Patriots: Former American football star David Patten has now been killed in a motorcycle accident. The 47-year-old had an accident with his machine near the city of Columbia in the state of South Carolina on Thursday, as reported by ESPN with reference to the local coroner.
Accordingly, Patten got into oncoming traffic with his motorcycle and caused an accident with two cars. One of the drivers was also hospitalized with injuries. The exact circumstances of the fatal crash are still being investigated by the Highway Patrol and forensic medicine.

Patten played for five different NFL teams between 1997 and 2008. The wide receiver secured his place in the sports history books through his time with the New England Patriots, with whom he won three Super Bowl titles in four seasons – alongside quarterback superstar Tom Brady, among others.
The football community reacted with great sadness and condolence to the death of the popular ex-player. “It breaks my heart to hear of David’s death at this young age,” said Patriots coach Bill Belichick in a statement. “I am grateful that I coached David. He is an important person and player in Patriots history, without him we would not have become Super Bowl champions. Patriots owner Robert Kraft was also shocked by the death of his former player. “New England will always remember him as a three-time Super Bowl champion.”
Other companions also paid Patten their respects on social networks. “Great player, but above all a great person, mentor and brother,” wrote former teammate Deion Branch on Twitter. Former New England offensive coach Charlie Weis also mourns the loss of an “excellent player and an even better person”. He praises Patten as a “family man, team player, devout Christian”. Most recently, Patten worked as an assistant coach at Western Carolina University, for whose college team he had once played.
