Formula 1 CEO: “Never race in Russia again”

Due to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, the Sochi Grand Prix had been removed from the calendar and should have been held in St. Petersburg, Vladimir Putin’s hometown, from 2023. But all contracts were terminated at the beginning of March.

“I’ve always believed that you should never say never. But in this case I can certainly promise – we won’t negotiate with them anymore. There will be no more races in Russia,” Domenicali said unequivocally.

However, the chairman of the Russian organizer, Alexei Titov, still expects a refund of expenses incurred due to the cancellation of the race. Regardless of the position of F1 management, the debt is expected to be settled, said Titow. “The current situation in world sport is extremely politicized.” Domenicali’s attitude has nothing to do with true sportsmanship, the Russian said.
