De Cecco, about to enter the great history of world volleyball

Argentina, bronze medal at the last Olympic Games in Tokyo 2020, will debut this Saturday against Iran in group F in the Slovenian city of Ljubljana. Then, De Cecco will reach one of the most notable records in his sport, a mark that he shares with the Argentine point guard Javier Weber, with the Venezuelan Vicente Pastor and with the Czechoslovakian Josef Musil.

The 34-year-old player will be the only one to have played in his five World Cups in the 21st century, with participation in the editions of Japan 2006, Italy 2010, Poland 2014, Italy-Bulgaria 2018 and Poland-Slovenia 2022.

The Venezuelan Shepherd participated in Mexico 1974, Italy 1978, Argentina 1982, France 1986 and Brazil 1990 (in the last World Cup he was 37 years old).

Meanwhile, the Czechoslovakian Josef Musil -who also played as a point guard- played five World Cups between 1952 and 1966, when Czechoslovakia was an international power: he was world champion in 1956 and 1966 and runner-up in 1952, 1960 and 1962. In addition, he won two Olympic medals: silver in Tokyo 1964 and bronze in Mexico 1968.

By CeccoPan-American gold medalist in Toronto 2015, has another record in Argentine volleyball as he is the only compatriot who managed to be champion of the Italian Super League, the NBA of this sport, three times (2017/18, 2020/21 and 2021/22).

The selected one who directs Marcelo Mendezninth in the 2022 Nations League, will share the group in the World Cup in Poland/Slovenia, which starts this Friday, with Iran, the Netherlands and Egypt.
