Before they traveled to the test at the traditional German club Straubing today, the Steinbach Black Wings Linz and LASK played a one-two this week. The goalkeeper coaches of the Bundesliga ice hockey team had invited their “colleague” of the soccer table leader, Philipp Großalber, in the past few days.
“We are always open to new approaches and methods. I’ve always been interested in how my colleagues in football control the training,” says Black Wings goalie coach Jürgen Penker, who showed his guest how ice hockey works in a practice session and then analyzed it with Großalber and junior coach Gernot Wegerer.
Some similarities were also discovered. “For example, shortening the firing angle or behaving one-on-one,” said Penker and Großalber in unison after the meeting. According to the LASK goalkeeper coach, the exchange was incredibly instructive. A return invitation to a LASK training session in Pasching should follow.
Wings striker Alexander Lahoda is unable to take part in today’s trip to Bavaria to the DEL quarter-finalists due to injury. He is also likely to miss the September 16 season opener.
Former sponsor returns
With cable provider Liwest, the Black Wings were able to officially welcome a former sponsor back on board this season. Officially, because since the beginning of August there have been several indications that Liwest could return. The Liwest logo has already appeared on next season’s home jerseys, which were worn in public at the first ice practice session. The former main sponsor has entered into a long-term partnership with the Black Wings.
