“I’m very happy about the appreciation and feel extremely comfortable at VfL Wolfsburg,” said the 31-year-old. Popp has been playing for the club from Lower Saxony since 2012. With 18 national and three international club titles, she is one of the most successful German soccer players.
“Alex is not only one of the most influential personalities in football in Germany, but worldwide,” said sporting director Ralf Kellermann. Popp, who recently became European runners-up with the national team, had to sit out injured in the final against England. The 31-year-old had missed out on the potential top-scorer award and had to cede it to rival Beth Mead. The 27-year-old Englishwoman, like the VfL striker, scored six goals at the tournament in England, but had more assists.
