Nine races before the end of his career, Sebastian Vettel is far from finished with Formula 1.
“I find it difficult to reflect on all these years in such a short time. Maybe it will come over me at a later date,” said the 35-year-old before the Grand Prix in Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium. Vettel had announced before the almost four-week summer break that he wanted to stop at the end of the year. “When I’m in the car, I still want to get the best out of it,” assured the Hessian with a view to the remaining races.
Since announcing his decision, he has felt relieved, said Vettel. He was overwhelmed by the many congratulations and messages of support. “I was really able to enjoy the break and am really looking forward to the remaining races,” said the four-time world champion. In any case, he is someone who looks much more forward than back.
He still has no concrete idea of his time after being a racing driver. “It’s difficult for any athlete, man or woman, to know what life is going to be like when you give up what you’ve been doing all your life,” Vettel said. Time will tell, added the Aston Martin driver.
