Tennis: Djokovic and Federer hunted at the Olympic tournament in Tokyo

The Serbian world number one and the 20-time Grand Slam winner from Switzerland are on the list of participants that was published on Thursday. Both superstars are still missing Olympic gold in their own lives. Djokovic won bronze in Beijing in 2008, Federer was Olympic champion in doubles that year.

The big absentee include Spain’s Rafael Nadal and the injured ÖTV star Dominic Thiem as well as the American Serena Williams and the Romanian Simona Halep for women. In the women’s field, the Australian leader Ashleigh Barty and the Japanese Naomi Osaka lead the field. Since the defending champion Monica Puig is missing due to an injury, there will be a premiere gold medal winner. That doesn’t have to be the case with the men, with the Scotsman Andy Murray, the winner of the most recent two Olympic editions is back at the start.

46 nations have named participants, the game will be played between July 24th and August 1st in the Ariake Tennis Park.
