Vice president PSD MP Miguel Pinto Luz reacted on behalf of the party on Tuesday to the resignation of Health Minister Marta Temido.
According to Miguel Pinto Luz, Marta Temido “is a minister who has never been able to distinguish personal convictions from the needs of citizens.” “Fhello, I need my mother to die for the minister to resign,” he added.
For the party, the decisions of the Minister of Health, who left the post, according to the party, are “already too late”, “will be felt in the short, medium and long term” and “do not solve any problems”.
“What will Antonio Costa do? Will he change course on health policy or just elect a new minister and nothing will change?” asked Miguel Pinto Luz, adding that “in Portugal, there is an urgent need to change health care and discussions so that the Portuguese have access to better health care.”
Asked about the profile that the PSD thinks the new minister should have, Pinto Luz said António Costa should choose his team, but stressed that a change in health policy would be important.
On news that the process of replacing Marta Temido would not be quick, a source close to the prime minister admitted to Luce, the PSD leader considered it part of António Costa’s tactic of using “ministers as shields.”
“We will have another zombie minister in the coming weeks, but the country cannot wait, pregnant women cannot wait, the country has been waiting for decisions for a long time,” he said.
When asked if António Costa should take advantage of the departure of Marta Temido to carry out major repairs, Miguel Pinto Luz only replied that the prime minister “will make his choice and will be responsible for it.”
Vice president of PSD ends up blaming António Costa for the “bankruptcy of SNS”.
The resignation of Health Minister Marta Temido, announced this morning, represents the first “weight loss” of the XXIII constitutional government, which took office exactly five months ago, on April 30.
Martha Temido submitted her resignation because she felt that she “no longer had the conditions” to hold the position.
The resignation, already accepted by the prime minister, was announced at dawn, but this morning an official source in António Costa’s office told Lusa that the replacement of the health minister “won’t be quick”, adding that the head of government would like this governor to complete the process of determining new executive leadership of SNS.
Marta Temido assumed her duties as Minister of Health in October 2018, succeeding Adalberto Campos Fernandez, and has served as minister under the last three leaders, led by socialist António Costa.
