Fernando De Luca is Argentinian and Multimedia Designer. He was in charge of showing through a video a real and highly acclaimed figurine design. He decided to create his own chrome to show that the well-known brand that has been dedicated to making world cup designs for many years, could have tried a little more to achieve a better and more interactive product.
“To be frank, I was very disappointed in this new collection that Panini brought out for the next World Cup, the orange background gradient, the cutout of the player, his shadow, there were several factors that made me think what the figurine that I wanted to collect would be like . It was there where it occurred to me to make the video.Fernando shared with Ámbito.
And he added: “I don’t know if the word is anger, I can tell you that they disappointed me, I had been waiting for them for a long time, every World Cup I wait for them with the idea that they risk it a little more and do something different that breaks the rule . I remember that in the World Cup in France 98 some 9×12 centimeter cards had gone on sale with plays and info on each player, they were the best. I don’t remember who made them, but I’m sure they weren’t from Panini.”
The impact by design
Through different interactions, Fernando showed on his networks how he designed a figurine different and more creative. uploaded the content to TikTokand quickly his video began to go viral, reaching thousands of views.
“It was crazy, I woke up in the morning and my cell phone was bursting with notifications.. That’s when I thought, hey, something happened here. I was very happy to see that the majority of users liked the design and that many users felt the same disappointment that I felt when I saw the new collection of panini”, he shared.
A life dedicated to his profession
“Virtually my whole life is dedicated to design, I started my path in this area back in 1996, when I was just 9 years old, my parents had bought a home computer, the big ones with conventional monitors. At that time it was enough to install Photoshop 3.0 and begin to investigate, make frequent mistakes and try again. The use of the Internet was not very common, in those times there was “Encarta Encyclopedia”today it would be something very precarious, but at that time it was enough for me to download images, retouch them and make compositions”, recalled this young man with nostalgia who, with an innovative, complete and dynamic design, managed to captivate thousands of Argentines.
