This withdrawal from top-class sport is final. Snowboarder Julia Dujmovits ended her active career for the second time yesterday. The 2014 Olympic slalom champion and partner Geoffrey Camus are expecting a child together in early 2023. “Geoffrey and I are really excited to be parents in January. New priorities, new challenges that we look forward to,” says the 35-year-old.
After the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, the Burgenland native put her board in the proverbial corner for two seasons before daring a comeback in September 2020. “It was a big challenge to return to the World Cup after a break of more than two years. The way back was 100 percent worth it,” said Dujmovits, who carried Austria’s flag at the Winter Games in Beijing last February. Sixth place at her third Winter Games “was a good result given my cartilage and meniscus injury in my left knee”, the five-time World Cup winner proudly looked back on the last chapter of her career. She thanked her family, her companions as well as doctors and therapists who helped her back again and again after several serious injuries. Most recently, Dujmovits had an operation on her left knee last April. Professionally, the Sulzer native works as a start-up entrepreneur and intends to complete her master’s degree in coaching and training soon.
“Julia Dujmovits distinguished herself with her positive demeanor and her professional attitude to sport. Because of these qualities, she was a great role model,” said ÖSV President Roswitha Stadlober.
