As in Styria, when defending world championship champion and leader Fabio Quartararo crashed the Ducati party on his Yamaha in second place behind Francesco Bagnaia, the 23-year-old Frenchman could also be a fun brake on the Adriatic, especially since the slow, winding route from Misano that Yamaha is tailor-made for.
After three wins in a row, Bagnaia is only 44 points behind Quartararo in the World Championship, while Ducati is dreaming of its second MotoGP title since 2007 (Casey Stoner) with seven races to go. “What is mathematically feasible is not impossible. But there will definitely be no gifts from Quartararo,” motorcycle expert Gustl Auinger believes that the Italians’ race to catch up may come too late.
The rest of the season for the KTM team is going more under the motto “damage limitation”, which is already concentrating on the year 2023 after the personnel decisions have been made.
