Telma Monteiro on the “war” with the Judo Federation: “There are several unresolved issues”

Judoka Telma Monteiro said today that “there are things that need to be resolved” in a dispute with the Portuguese Judo Federation (FPJ), despite the fact that “some technical issues have been partially resolved” after meeting with the government and the Portuguese Olympic Committee.

This Thursday, Thelma Monteiro attended a meeting with the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, on gender equality, inclusion and sport, held at the headquarters of the Portuguese Olympic Committee (COP).

In addition to Monteiro, Olympic athletes Patricia Mamona, Tamila Holub, Lauren Basolo and Maria Cayetano were also present.

A letter is at stake in the “war” with FPJ signed by Olympians Telma Monteiro, Catarina Costa, Barbara Timo, Rochelle Nunez, Patricia Sampaio and Anri Egutidze, in which they accuse the President of the Judo Federation of Portugal (FPJ) of oppression and call for the intervention of the guardians of this sport.

The letter, signed by six judokas, as well as Rodrigo López, a total of seven out of 10 athletes of the Olympic project, contains many criticisms of Jorge Fernandes, accused of discrimination and threats, in what they call an “unsustainable and toxic climate.”
