Corporal GNR found dead at home by colleagues in Sintra

A 47-year-old GNR corporal assigned to secretarial duty at Escola da Guarda, in Queluz, Sintra, was found dead by colleagues at home early Wednesday morning.

Alvaro Cotrim Silva, who has worked in these security forces for about 25 years, warned his superiors the day before that he had health problems (severe abdominal pain) and therefore needed to go to the emergency hospital.

However, a GNR official told CM that the military never reported his condition to his superiors and colleagues.

After several unsuccessful cell phone calls, the GNR school soldiers decided to ask their colleagues from the Sintra detachment to go to Alvaro Silva’s house (where he lived alone) in the Abruneira area.

The soldier continued without responding to attempts to contact him, and so, with the support of firefighters, colleagues broke down the door of the house.

The 47-year-old corporal was found dead in one of the rooms of the apartment at 15:00 this Wednesday. The death was confirmed by the Health Authority and the body was taken for autopsy to the Law Institute of Medicine.

According to the same source contacted by CM, death was the result of a sudden illness. There is no evidence of crime or suicide.
