8th match day 2nd league: 2nd division top teams Paderborn and HSV sovereign

In the 2nd Bundesliga, the top teams are becoming more and more stable. Paderborn and HSV march ahead. Düsseldorf’s Kownacki scores a magic goal. HSV now has to prove itself against Fortuna.

Paderborn remains a home power and HSV suddenly even wins against its feared opponent – in the 2nd Bundesliga the top teams are slowly breaking away.

SV Darmstadt can no longer follow, after a 2-0 lead on the Betzenberg at 1. FC Kaiserslautern on Sunday, they did not get beyond a turbulent 3: 3 (1: 0) and fell back to fourth place.

Hamburger SV, on the other hand, after their third win in a row, is hoping to finally be able to return to the Bundesliga next summer after five long years in the lower house. “You can see what’s going on in Hamburg,” said HSV coach Tim Walter after the 3-2 (1-0) win at Holstein Kiel on Friday evening, which saw Hamburg secure second place in the table.

HSV finally managed their first win in their ninth duel with Holstein. What is an even greater indication of the stability of Hamburg this season: HSV is now also winning its weaker games. Kiel was superior again, had a goal shot record of 22:12 in the end – and still lost. “That speaks for the team and the team spirit,” said defender Moritz Heyer.

What SC Paderborn puts on the field week after week looks even better. In the 3-0 (1-0) win against Regensburg on Saturday, coach Lukas Kwasniok’s team increased the points account to 19 points and the goal difference to 24:8. “That’s a very good record for Paderborn. Nevertheless, we’re greedy for three points in Fürth,” said Kwasniok, looking ahead to the coming matchday.

Saturday’s win was their sixth straight game without a loss, with five wins. At home, Paderborn won all five games with 20:4 goals. “It’s just fun to play here. It’s important that we stay clean at the back. We want to play our game and don’t look at the table every day,” said striker Marvin Pieringer. The last defeat so far was almost two months ago. On July 22, Paderborn lost 1:2 at Fortuna Düsseldorf, who want to draw a lot of energy from the 3:1 (2:0) against Hansa Rostock on Saturday evening.

With only 15 halfway operational professionals, Fortuna Hansa played against the wall at times. Dawid Kownacki, who only reported healthy for the game at short notice, scored a magic goal (10th minute) when he scissored a great preparatory work by Tim Oberdorf over Rostock’s keeper Markus Kolke. “That was a great ball from Oberdorf. The end was a bit better,” said Fortuna coach Daniel Thioune. “You don’t see a goal like that every day.”

With 14 points now, Fortuna is again in wait behind Heidenheim and Darmstadt (15 each). Next Saturday evening in the top game against Düsseldorf, HSV has to prove how stable it really is. With their victory, the Düsseldorfers also overtook Hannover 96, who did not get more than a 1-1 draw against Eintracht Braunschweig in the Lower Saxony derby.
