LINZ. In the previous season, the SPG Weißkirchen/Allhaming had confidently crowned themselves champions of the Upper Austrian league – in the current season the reigning champion is still struggling with a “master trauma”: With the 4-1 win on Friday against FC Wels finally the first win of the season. “We weren’t familiar with this situation, didn’t lose 21 games in the championship season and the pendulum mostly swung in our direction,” says sporting director Fritz Pflug. That wasn’t the case in the young season: “It’s maybe a kind of master trauma, it didn’t all go so easily. Before the Wels game we were under a lot of pressure, luckily we have our first win succeded.”
Nevertheless, the club has remained calm in recent weeks – withdrew as a team from the mini-crisis: “We even held two meetings with the team and went troubleshooting.” The turnaround was achieved together – Mondsee is also hoping for that: Last year’s fifth place next to bottom Stadl-Paura are the only team still waiting for their first win – even had to accept the equalizer in the 1-1 finish against Perg. “We had a change in the summer, but get together better and better from week to week. The first win will come soon,” coach Christoph Mamoser is sure. 15th place is just as unsatisfactory as 12th place for St. Valentin: The Riedl team was also one of the top teams last season with fourth place. “It’s annoying when you know what the team did last season. We’re a shadow of ourselves at the moment,” said sports director Harald Guselbauer after the 1-0 defeat against Ostermiething.
The world upside down in Stadl-Paura: The tail light was close to winning the first point in the 0-1 draw against Pregarten, celebrating the defeat like a win. “We acted as a team, everyone fought for everyone else. We can build on this performance,” says Stadl-Paura coach Mario Wittmann.
