Juventus director reveals: That’s why Cristiano Ronaldo moved to Manchester United instead of City

For a long time everything pointed to a move from CR7 to Manchester City. Rival United won the bid. Juve director Cherubini explains why.

Federico Cherubini, sports coordinator at Juventus Turin, has revealed why superstar Cristiano Ronaldo (36) has switched to city rival Manchester United instead of Manchester City.

“The necessary conditions were not given,” said the 50-year-old in an interview with Tuttosport addressed to the efforts of the Cityzens to pull the Portuguese ashore free of charge. United, on the other hand, “behaved differently, like a club with tradition.”

Juve director Cherubini on CR7: “Respect Ronaldo, but …”

Thus, after 12 years, Ronaldo returned to the place where he matured to star. Next Saturday, CR7 will make his second debut for the Red Devils in the Premier League game against Newcastle United (from 4 p.m. on LIVE-TICKER).

Cherubini regretted leaving Ronaldo, but a move was the only option. “Given the way Ronaldo had spoken to us, there could be no other ending. We couldn’t force a player to stay in an environment he no longer knew,” he said.

The respect for the five-time world footballer is still there, “but I agree with our president – the history of Juventus is written by great masters, coaches and directors, but the club remains the most important thing,” added Cherubini.
