The German basketball players can fall back on NBA professional Franz Wagner in the quarterfinals of the European Championship.
The 21-year-old from Orlando Magic is part of the German squad for the game in Berlin (8.30 p.m. / Magentasport and RTL). Wagner’s use was uncertain until the end due to an ankle injury.
Nick Weiler-Babb (shoulder injury) and Johannes Voigtmann (cold) are also available to national coach Gordon Herbert for the game against the title candidate with NBA star Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Former basketball superstar Dirk Nowitzki is delighted with the current enthusiasm for his sport. “I’m a bit excited. That’s huge for our sport. It’s going to be a great evening,” said the 44-year-old on RTL before the game against Greece. The private broadcaster from Cologne secured the rights to show the game on free TV at short notice.
Nowitzki, who won bronze at the 2002 World Championships and silver at the 2005 European Championships, is a tournament ambassador in Cologne and Berlin. “The team is doing very, very well. We played great games. Dennis Schröder has the game under control,” said Nowitzki about his successor in the national team.
