There’s no worse way to lose a game. Without giving the opponent a single chance in the second half, FC Blau-Weiss-Linz lost the second division hit against SKN St. Pölten in the 92nd minute 0-1 (0-0).
When the Lower Austrians counterattacked, the blue and white defense was asleep. Jaden Montnor, who came on as a substitute in the finish, headed in the cross from the right to win for St. Pölten. A few seconds later it was over – and the game turned upside down.
Blue and white will probably have to put their hopes in the title fight on hold for longer. With this point cut you have lost nothing at the top anyway. “It’s not just bad luck, it’s also inability when you miss so many chances. Other than that, I can’t fault the team much. The game was good, but we didn’t reward ourselves,” said coach Gerald Scheiblehner, who has one hope: “We’re finally rid of the role of the big favorite for the title. Maybe that’ll clear our heads. We may be on the ground, but real winners get back on their feet.”
Blue and white had dominated the opponent from the start and constricted them with aggressive pressing. However, they proved to be masters at wasting opportunities. On the other hand, St. Pölten barely got in front of Linz’s goal. But when it did, it got really dangerous. Like a Conte shot that the blue and white goalkeeper Schmid was able to deflect onto the crossbar (15′). And after the break, the Lower Austrians used their only top chance to win late.
