Marco Reus does not have to worry about participating in the World Cup in Qatar because of his foot injury suffered in the derby against FC Schalke 04.
“I can give the all-clear a little bit,” said Borussia Dortmund’s sports director Sebastian Kehl in a “double pass” at Sport1: “The tests yesterday didn’t show a fracture. He has an outer ligament injury in his ankle, but not so serious that the World Cup is at risk .” He hopes “that Marco will be available again in three to four weeks.”
Use against Hungary and England unlikely
In the 30th minute of the derby against FC Schalke 04 (1-0), Reus twisted his right foot after a duel. The 33-year-old immediately covered his face with his hands in pain and was carried off the pitch after a long treatment. This also makes the end of the two upcoming Nations League games on September 23 in Leipzig against Hungary and on September 26 against England in London seem likely.
In the evening, Reus reported via Instagram. He didn’t name a diagnosis, but thanked everyone for the many good wishes and promised: “I’ll be back soon! I’ll never give up!”
Winning goalscorer Youssoufa Moukoko dedicated his goal to the Dortmund captain. “In the end we all hope it’s not that bad,” he said. “He’s our captain. When he’s on the pitch you feel better.”
